Tour de l'Argentine - Solalex

Come and discover a breathtaking mountain panorama, while taking on a demanding challenge that's within the reach of any hiker in good physical condition!

Let yourself be surprised by this loop hike of around 15km, in the heart of one of the wildest and most unspoilt massifs in the Alpes Vaudoises!

This route starts near Solalex, a magnificent alpine plateau surrounded by pastures and dominated by the imposing limestone walls of the Argentine. Right from the start, the path gradually rises through coniferous forests, offering a welcome coolness, before leading into the high mountain pastures.

As you climb these slopes, the landscape changes: the lush green meadows give way to a lunar-like mineral world of scree and rocky ridges typical of this massif.

The ascent takes you to the Col des Essets (2,300m), the highest point of the hike. From here, you can enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding peaks: the Dents du Midi, the Grand Muveran and the Diablerets, and then down to the Rhone Valley, which stretches as far as the eye can see.

It's already time to head back down another slope, winding through scree and pastures, to gentler paths criss-crossing alpine meadows and forests.
